I'm showing some work in Lost Properties, an exhbition that's part of Fringe Arts Bath running from Fri 25th May  to Sunday 10th June 2012.

switich 2012 - Call for Entries

switch is an event that promotes and shows contemporary works of moving image in a public context. It offers an alternative way to navigate familiar places, creating new encounters. switch has to date shown the artworks of 23 international artists who have through the project invited the public into their practice, ideas and viewpoints. switch locates itself outside of the big city and applies itself to the rhythm of smaller places.

The 4th annual installment of switch invites you to take part. Artists working with film/video/animation are invited to submit works responding to the theme of Balance.

David Sherry - 'Holding Phones, Counting Cars, Flights of Geometry' at Mother's Tankstation, Dublin

Glasgow based artist David Sherry is showing in Mother's Tankstation, Watling St, Dublin 8. 23 February - 26 March 2011.

Sherry's humourous explorations in performance, video, sculpture and drawing border on the ridiculous. Rooted in the objects and procedures of the everyday his darkly comical work commandeers what we know and steers it into altogether unknown territory.

End of Shadows, The Sycamore Arts Club, Dublin.

I will be showing in 'End of Shadows' at The Sycamore Arts Club, 9 Sycamore St. Temple Bar, Dublin 1.

This is a group exhibition highlighting 24 international artists which have exhibited over the year at the Arts Club. The show will also includes four new artists that the gallery will be working with in 2011.


The exhibition's preview is on the 9th of December - from 6.30 till 8.30. The show will run till the 22nd Janurary 2011.

Bizarre Bazaar @ Pallas Contemporary Projects

I will be showing a hardback book version of arrangement150 in Bizarre Bazaar, this year's annual group show at Pallas Contemporary Projects. Opening 7-9pm Thursday 25th November. Running until 18th December.

'.....an open platform for the exchange of ideas, where every idea has its price. This years’ annual group exhibition will explore a certain tendency of the bazaar, for which the gallery will be set up as a market for the duration of the exhibition. Artworks of various sizes and prices, editions, fanzines, long playing records and artists’ books, have been donated by, temporarily estranged from, hoodwinked and wrestled out of the hands of esteemed, established and emerging artists, our colleagues and friends.'

 Harald Turek, the tour leader and chief switcher on, starts the evenings proceedings with Jeff Langile's Waterfall.

 Those on the tour were given hand-held slide viewers, or 'time machines' as we were told. Slides showing works from previous years as well as historical photograghs of Nenagh were handed out throughout the tour.

Switch 2010 - Artists Announced

On August 25th I headed off to Nenagh to sit on the curatorial panel picking the videos that would be shown in Switch 2010. There were over 150 submissions from artists from all over the world, including Chile, Australia and China. A shortlist of 40 works were presented out of which 8 were selected.
 

The participating artists for Switch 2010 - 'the scale of things' are - McLean Fahnestock, Thomas Horak, Martijn Kuijten, Jeff Langille, Robert Ladislas Derr,Wolfgang Lehrner, Brigid McLeer and Holger Mohaupt.

Switch 2010 will take place from 1st to 7th November on the streets of Nenagh, Co. Tipperary. There are also plans to move the works to Bangor, Co. Down shortly after.

Summer Show at Rua Red - South Dublin Arts Centre

The 2010 Summer Show will take place at Rua Red from 19th July to 21st August.

My new sculpture 'Pinnacles' was selected for the show.

Cheap As Chips 2010

A digital drawing of mine will be exhibited as part of Cheap As Chips, a mixed media group exhibition taking place from January 14th - 31st 2010, at Circus Store in The Powerscourt Townhouse Centre in Dublin.

All artworks are for sale at a maximum price of  €99.99

My piece 'chairchucks' is a 320x320mm laser print and is priced at €25 unframed, €40 framed.

Last years participating artists included David Kitt, Gavin Murphy and Chris Judge.

Switch Update

Last night I headed down to Nenagh, Co Tipperary for the launch of Switch 2009 in which I have a video piece. Despite the rain's best efforts a great night was had by all and a special thanks needs to be given to the Switch organisers for all their hard work and hospitality. Find more info here

Switch 2009

I have been selected for Switch 2009. A video piece I produced a few years ago untitled(2006) will be projected onto the front window of an unused premises in Nenagh town centre. The theme of the project is playfulness. I'm really looking forward to seeing this work in a new context and meeting all the other artists involved. Find more info here.

Xavier Le Roy: experiments in dance

French biologist-turned-choreographer Xavier Le Roy, who presents Product of Circumstances at Tate Modern, talks about his leap from science to dance. He revisits his performances, such as Le Sacre du Printemps (2007), and explores the difference between collaborative and solo work.

Exhibition!!

I entered this photo into a competition with the theme of 'summer light'. It didn't win but I'm happy it has been included in the ensuing exhibition in The Samhlaiocht Gallery in Tralee, Co. Kerry which runs until the 23rd October. For more info check here.

The Life and Times of Lillian Virginia Mountweazel is group exhibition in Monster Truck Gallery, 19 – 31 March 2009, illuminating the unusual life of this artist & designer.

Mountweazel, Lillian Virginia, 1942-1973, American photographer, b. Bangs, Ohio. Turning from fountain design to photography in 1963, Mountweazel produced her celebrated portraits of the South Sierra Miwok in 1964. She was awarded government grants to make a series of photo-essays of unusual subject matter, including New York City buses, the cemeteries of Paris and rural American mailboxes. The last group was exhibited extensively abroad and published as Flags Up! (1972) Mountweazel died at 31 in an explosion while on assignment for Combustibles magazine.

Apart from those who have seen this entry on her in the New Columbia Encyclopedia, or those who have read the occasional press article that her strange life has excited, most people have never heard of Lillian Virginia Mountweazel. She never existed. Indeed, the word ‘Mountweazel’ is now used as a synonym for ‘phantom’ or ‘false entry’ in reference works – fictitious articles created as an aid in the detection of copyright infringement, as the encyclopaedia editors did in this example from the seventies. If such a false entry is present in work lifted from a copyrighted source it can be used as evidence of intellectual theft.

This eighty-three word encyclopaedia entry forms a point of departure for an exhibition exploring what might have been for Lillian Virginia, in the imaginations of six artists chosen by curator Davey Moor for their interest in fictitious narratives.
